An investigation into finding a theatrical language to transform personal human tragedies and narratives into works of poetic clown performance for the stage.
During this 2-day weekend workshop we will search for what it is that we wish to awaken in others. Clowning is the language of the heart and the clown’s job is to remind people of their humanity so we can share a human experience collectively. We will discover in clowning a real intimacy between you and people that is related to truth, the energy and emotions of the heart.
It’s not always about being funny; clowning can be about creating empathetic moments. We can find human tragedies in themes about death, love, loneliness etc,

In two days we will explore:
- Creating identifiable life moments and images and finding humour
- Discovering the dramatic and empathetic space in clowning
- Playing and subverting tragedy
- Searching for clown logic in human tragedies corresponding to themes about death, love, loneliness etc
- Lots of laughter and sighing
- Beginner and professional improvisers, stand ups, comedians, circus and theatre performance makers, actors and artists practicing the art of clowning.
- Wear comfortable neutral coloured clothing and soft shoes to move in.
- Bring a bottle of water.
- Arrive with an open mind and heart. Be ready to work with strong, sensitive and confrontational themes
