HERE'S THE MONTHLY CLASS BREAKDOWN:

First Half (3 hours): Individual Skills and Improv Clowning Development

The first half of the class is dedicated to honing individual clowning skills, improvisation technique and working on developing your unique clown personas
The classes will delve deep into the pedagogy of Jacques Lecoq, enriching your understanding of the art of clowning through this lens and my approach to making physical clown personas and shows.
Activities may include physical warm-ups, solo improvisation exercises, and skill-building drills and games.

Second Half (3 hours): Creation and Group Work in Duos and Groups

The second half of the class shifts the focus towards creating and developing group acts.
You will form duos or groups, and I will guide you in collaborative exercises.
Activities may include group improvisation, clown scene development, and ensemble singing or dancing.
Emphasis will be placed on ensemble work and creating comedic performances.

"I absolutely adore the Clown Institute! I've been attending for the past four months (final Saturday of each month) and I love it!

With a background in improv and sketch comedy, I went through a phase where I was so focused on 'getting it right' that I got stuck in my head. I wanted to try clowning because I heard it was physical and would catapult me into the present, into my body—and I thought it would be fun.

And it is!

Everyone who attends is really lovely. Sometimes comedy and art scenes can feel cliquey or competitive, but not at the Clown Institute. The atmosphere is friendly, supportive, and fun.

CLASS THEMES & CONTENT

Each monthly class may have a specific theme or focus that aligns with the skills being taught.
Themes could include physical comedy, clown persona development, storytelling, or genre-specific clowning (e.g. slapstick, street, absurd, eccentric, cabaret)
Special attention will be given to adapting individual skills to group performances.

PROGRESSIVE LEARNING

Over the course of several months, you will build upon your individual skills and gradually progress to more complex group acts.
You will be encouraged to practice and develop your clown personas and partner acts between sessions.
The sessions will encourage you to experiment with different comedic styles and ensemble dynamics.

OPTIONAL PERFORMANCE & GUEST TEACHER OPPORTUNITIES

Throughout the year, there will be opportunities for you to showcase your group acts in front of an audience at 107 Redfern, allowing you to apply what you’ve created.
My aim is to also line up some fantastic guest teachers throughout the year, bringing you fresh perspectives and new tricks of the trade.

Join us for an evening of laughter, spontaneity, and unscripted hilarity as our student clowns take the stage.

Four times a year, clown students of the Saturday Monthly Class get the chance to grace the clown stage.

Saturday Clown Class is perfect for people with prior experience in acting, clowning or improvisation. If you're enthusiastic about clowning, eager to learn, and thrive in a collaborative, comedic environment, this class is for you! Check in with Alicia if unsure.

2. How much does the Saturday Clown Class cost?

The cost varies based on the payment option you choose. Please refer to the Payment Options section for detailed information on costs and payment plans.

3. Can I cancel my subscription to the Saturday Clown Class?

Yes, the Ongoing Monthly Subscription allows you to cancel at any time. However, other payment options may have different cancellation policies, so please review the terms associated with your chosen plan.

4. Are there any discounts for long-term commitments?

Yes, the Saturday Clown Class Yearly option offers a reduced monthly rate compared to the Ongoing Monthly Subscription. Take advantage of this discounted rate by committing to a yearly plan.

5. What happens if I miss a class in the Yearly Payment Plan?

Don't worry if you can't make every class. You can miss up to 2 classes and providing you give me 7 days notice, I will issue a Clown Institute voucher for the value of $70 for each class.

6. Can I switch between payment plans?

Unfortunately, I do not currently support switching between payment plans. Please choose the plan that best suits your needs and commitment level.

7. How do I sign up for the Saturday Clown Class?

To enrol in the Saturday Clown Class, visit Monthly Clown Class and follow the registration instructions. Choose your preferred payment option and complete the necessary information.

8. Is there an age limit for participants?

The Saturday Clown Class is designed for participants of ages 18 years +. However, it's recommended for individuals who have a genuine interest in learning and practicing the art of clowning.

9. Can I bring a friend to the Drop-in (Pay as You Go) class?

Absolutely! The Drop-in option allows flexibility, and you can bring a friend to experience the joy of clowning with you. Just make sure to inform me (Alicia) in advance as they would need prior performance experience.

10. How often are the Saturday Clown Classes held?

Classes are generally held every last Saturday of the month as per the schedule. Check the schedule or contact Alicia for the most up-to-date information on class timings and any schedule changes.

11. What should I wear to the Saturday Clown Class?

Wear comfy clothing that allows for movement. You may also choose to wear your red nose, but it's not mandatory. Closed-toe shoes are recommended for safety during certain activities.

12. Can I join the Saturday Clown Class in the middle of the year?

Yes, you can join the class at any time during the year. Your payment will be prorated based on the remaining sessions. Contact Alicia for specific details and enrolment instructions.
